Study English in Brighton, South England
At the end of the 18th century, Brighton was chosen by the British Royal Family
as their summer seaside resort. Ever since, Brighton has been one of the most
famous and visited seaside resorts of England. Although the town only has around
6.000 inhabitants, the number of people easily doubles in the summer, with
people travelling from all parts of Southern England, especially London, to
enjoy a day in the sun, experience idyllic country life in one of the sidewalk
cafés, or do a bit of summer shopping. Brighton combines all commodities of an
English town with great nature and views. The piers date back to when the Royals
came and have been used lavishly in many a British movie.
Today Brighton is regarded as a very fashionable place to be, and hosts many
sporting events, both in and out of the water, and has many renowned restaurants,
bars, and pubs. Brighton also has a solid European reputation for its great
nightclubs and nightlife and is visited by many a famous DJ, especially in the
summer months. Because Brighton is all the way south in England, the weather
is usually great too, with almost a tropical climate, palm trees and beach
promenades that will remind you of countries normally placed much further south
on the European map.
Before the British Royals and their accompanying aristocrats came and conquered,
Brighton was a quiet fishing-village. The fishermen and their families lived
in the "Winding Lanes". Today, you can stroll through these streets and stop for
a beer or a coffee, as this part of town has become a little society of its own,
filled with bars, pubs, antique shops, book shops, and little boutiques. And
country life should begin to bore you can we remedy this as well: there is a
direct train connection to London Victoria, and the train only takes 45 minutes.
