Granada - Home of La Alhambra and Sierra Nevada
Beautiful Granada, home of the famous La Alhambra and with its strong arabic
influences is a treat situated in the heart of Andalucía. Situated about 45min north
of the lovely beaches of the "Costa Tropical", right at the base of Sierra
Nevada, Granada is definitely one of the most beautiful cities Spain has to
offer.
La Alhambra is without a doubt what people associate with Granada, but the city
is famous for more than just this arab fort. One of its most distinct features is
the Albaycin, this old arab part of town, with its steep cobbled and narrow
streets with the typical labyrinthic arabic structure and
white-chalked houses. Walk up the streets of the Albaycin until you get
to the popular square of San Juan de los Reyes where you can gaze at the Alhambra with
the snow-clad mountains of Sierra Nevada behind it. Or should you prefer to stay
down at the bottom of the hills, go and buy a cerveza in any tapas bar around
Plaza Nueva and
be pleasently surprised by the great( free) tapas that accompany your beverage.
Granada apparently has the largest amount of bars per inhabitant in Spain
(which means there must be a lot, as the Spanish usually spend more time in
the local bar than at home!), and most of them are usually full of
chattering and friendly Spaniards, who will be happy to talk to you for
hours if you wish to do so. The local fiestas are as frequent as they are fun, there is always at least one "barrio-fiesta"
(street party in a close-by neighbourhood) going on, with concerts, fun
fairs and more opportunities to try out all that great Spanish food.
The Granada school
Our school in Granada is located in a historic building from the beginning
of the last century (20th), right in the heart of the city. A short walking
distance from the school you´ll find the student-flats, with some of the
them even in the same building. The professors are highly qualified and the
classes are small -meaning you get a lot of attention, ensuring your
learning progress is maximised.
Cultural visits and excursions
The Granada school offers a lot of excursions and tend to be very popular,
from the obligatory visit to La Alhambra
(with guide from the school, make sure you don´t miss this tour!), horseback riding in the
Sierra Nevada (for everyone, including those who´ve never ridden before),
Flamenco nights in the traditional mountain caves, cultural exibitions and more.
Last but not least, Granada has an impressive amount of bars
and pubs open until the small hours, ensuring you´ll keep up on your
socialsing as well whilst studying those verbs!
