Madrid - The capital of Spain
Madrid has been the capital of Spain since 1562, and has an approximate
population of 4.000.000 inhabitants. Located in the middle of the country,
it is said that you can get to any other part of Spain in just four hours by car.
Being the capital, this city is the heart of Spain in more than just one
way. Madrid is the biggest city in Spain, and has a clear cosmopolitan way
about it, yet it also is typically Spanish in many ways.
During the day, the city has a distinct "business" feel to it, but as the evening comes in, the
city changes to a pulsating and lively city, with a multitude of bars,
restaurants, café´s and clubs, and the Madrileneans are known to be some of
the best parying people in the world!
In Madrid, you´ll learn the importance of the siesta, as the Madrileneans
usually don´t start populating the streets until at least after midnight,
and then they stay out until four or five in the morning, yet somehow always
manage to get to work in the morning! You´ll find that as much as tapas is
a "must" before you go out clubbing or bar-hopping, "churros con chocolate
caliente" (a kind of doughnut that you dip in a fantastic, hot chocolate
sauce) is obligatory after your visit to the bars or clubs has ended.
The Madrid school
Our school in Madrid is located in the heart of the city, in walking
distance to "Gran Via" with its shopping, movie theatres and restaurants,
and with school apartments located a stone throw away from the school
itself. In Madrid there are also ample opportunities to stay with a host
family if you want to. The school building is new, well organised, with great
professors, a fully equipped computer room for emailing, and an abundance
of cultural opportunities. The school offers plenty
of excursions as well, from afternoon trips to interesting sights in town,
daytrips to nearby locations and weekendtrips to other cities in Spain and
Portugal. This
shcool comes highly recommended from people who have studied there!
